Two nights in a row?

Posted by Wurtzy on May 10, 2007

I had a gig Tuesday night with Rhino @ Sneaky Pete’s, DT MPLS. Good times, got home at around 1:30am. Not too bad. Didn’t feel like hell, which was nice. The smoking ban is definitely something I could deal with!
SJ_2007Last night (Wed.) Beth and I went to Bogarts to see our old friend Mark Allen playing for ShakyJake. For some reason, the entire old cast of SJ was there! Bill Wright, George Hamilton, Eric Kratochville, even JDS. It was great to see Mark rocking and doing his thing yet. I snapped a picture of the four of us… If I remember to post it, that would be even better.

Now I’ll rant about the smoke. With Beth’s current condition, it really disheartened me to see her not comfortable in the bar because of all the smoke. I couldn’t tell quite as much as she could, but it was a complete 180 from the night before. The smell completely consumes people, fills up my clothes. When I took a shower, I could smell it from my hair. Just gross. This all coming from an ex-smoker.

Call me a hypocrite, but I can’t wait for the state-wide band. It will more than likely hurt the bar business for a spell, but the long run positives from the band will more than make up for it. The proof was in the two nights out in a row. Tuesday night, up until 1:30, non-smoking bar, next day, feel fine. Wed. night, up until 12:15, smoking allowed, today (Thurs), feel worse. Not a whole lot worse(I did consume about 2 more beers, taps at that), but worse for wear than Wednesday. It could be a cumulative effect as well, but I guess that’s not really my point. I can’t imagine the smoking ban will completely kill the music scene. MPLS is doing fine, I believe Hopkins is doing well also. I understand that smoker’s think they have “rights” but when your the addict, your “rights” always seem to get violated more. “Oh no, I can’t smoke in bars. What’s the point?” The point is, non-smokers shouldn’t be subject to your nasty addiction. I like to play music. In a cover band. In bars. I chose to stop smoking. Why should I (and the servers, bartenders, and bar staff) be subject to the effects of smoking when I chose to STOP smoking?

Ah, we’ve all heard the story. I should get to work!
